This class is designed for children aged four to the end of school year one. Within the class the children learn the following dance styles: Disco, Street, Cheerleading and Modern. The routines are taught in a fun manner which engages the children’s attention.
The children are able to learn a wide variety of routines and action songs to both popular and current music. Mini Movers are also invited to enter IDTA Rosette Examinations
Our groovy moves dance classes are designed to be energetic, creative, physical but most of all fun! The syllabus taught within both classes links to the Early Years Foundation Skills (EYFS) and is suitable for children in academic year one. The children remain in this class until they enter academic year. At this point the children will be given the chance to attend the DC Graduation Day and then progress into our Junior section at the beginning of the new term.
We work closely alongside the IDTA Rosette Exam syllabus, starting with the basic principles of the genre within this class. The routines are taught in a fun manor which engages the children’s attention.
Within our classes the children are able to learn Latin (Rumba, Samba, Jive, Paso Doble and Cha Cha Cha), Ballroom (Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Foxtrot) and Club Rhythms (Salsa, Merengue, Mambo). This is a must for all Strictly fans! The children will be able to either begin or continue collecting IDTA Rosettes in Ballroom, Latin and Sequence throughout this class.
On taking their first rosette in each genre the children will receive a bannerette with their name engraved upon it and their first Rosette award to attach to the bannerette. Each consequent exam session they will receive rosettes of different colours. There are twelve rosettes to collect altogether. Alongside the current Rosettes, the children will also be able to study towards the brand new Preparatory and Primary Grades with the IDTA.
Musical Theatre is a fusion of Song, Dance and Drama and is ideal for any budding little stars! The children enjoy a varied mixture of both modern and classic musicals and get the chance to perform on various occasions throughout the year.
The children work on two musicals per year with the chance to take part in an IDTA Musical Theatre Exam and a showcase in our annual show. Alongside the work on the musicals, the children will also learn vocal and drama preparations and work on group songs.
Mini Movers: Musical Theatre is taught by Katrina Heath who holds a degree in Musical Theatre and the new IDTA Musical Theatre teaching diploma. Katrina also runs her own very successful theatre company whilst also performing in a variety of local plays and musicals.
Our Musical Theatre section at the school has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we hope to see it continue on its successful journey.
This programme has been developed by DC Dance staff with the help of the IDTA gymnastic dance syllabus and gymnastic teachers.
Gymnastic dance is different to gymnastics. Gymnastic dance helps to improve elements that are necessary to compliment the modern dancer such as flexibility, balance, acro work and some aerial work. We use specially designed equipment and lesson plans to prepare the children with basic gymnastic dance skills in order to progress into our junior section.
DC teachers will guide pre-school children through fun and engaging gymnastic dance classes. Each weekly class has a different theme for the children to explore to maintain interest and vary activities each week.
