Learning to Dance - Dancing to Learn
Melody Movement introduces children to dance and movement using the natural actions of the body such as running, walking, jumping, hopping, skipping and galloping. It is structured to aid children’s physical development, coordination, spatial awareness, sensory development, creativity and self-expression, working individually, with a partner, or as a group.
The syllabus is designed around the Early Years Foundation Scheme (EYFS) and introduces children to fundamental curriculum learning skills such as counting, colour and shape recognition, vocabulary and language skills. The strength of the system is that learning is achieved through imaginative movement which is enjoyable and fun.
Dawn has created weekly lesson plans in which Melody and her friends share an adventure or experience with the children each week. Many dance genres are included within the lesson plans so that the children gain a broad experience of dance styles. The children, whilst enjoying the experience, are taught fundamental dance principles to prepare them to move onto the next level on their fourth birthday.
All of the Melody Movement teachers are qualified dance teachers and hold the specialist MMEL Associate Award or above. The MMEL Associate Award is a preschool dance teaching award in which the teachers study, child development, links to the EYFS, classroom observation and teaching skills and other skills relevant to this age group .
